2007 Gx470 Console Shift Indicator Light Blinking?

I have just noticed that the console shift indicator on my 2007 GX470 is intermittently blinkiing. This is not a "loose connection" kind of blinking, it appears to be some kind of intended blink or flash. Anyone seen this problem? Anyone know what, if anything, it's trying to tell me?

Is it blinking or is the illumination brightness fluttering?
