TT 232 Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 New to the Lexus club, wondering if anyone has replaced these running board lights or can refer me to where I can get the bulbs . Next request..... how in the #@#$%&* do you get to the bulbs to replace them ? I am located in the Plano,Tx area and appreciate all and any suggestions. Tommy
victorjohn Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 I've just spent the past week researching this. I have a 2002 LX470 and it seems that you may need to remove or at least loosen the running boards to gain access the running board lights. There are some that claim to have been able to access the bulb fixtures without removing the RB's but I tried and couldn't do it. There are 2 bulbs for each running board - one in front and one in back. The tube in the middle refracts the light from both sides. I believe the puddle lights underneath are very close to the light sources themselves. From what I can tell, you'll need to get a "bulbrite 715210 - 10 Watt - T3 bulb" or #891. The bulbs are cheap - less than $3 each. I'm planning to attempt this myself. I've heard some crazy stories to where one guy was told by the dealer that he would need to replace the entire running board!! Not true. I'm in the process of getting a diagram for the running board and electrical components. If possible, I'll see if I can post somewhere here on this forum. Not sure how easy it is to remove the RB's. There is an electrical connector in the front to unplug and a Phillips screw on the front side in the wheel-well. The RB's sit on four "L" brackets each of which have 2 bolts. I'll keep you posted Tommy.
pj8708 Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Hey Victor. Sewell Lexus in Dallas is excellent in helping our members with questions about specs. such as these Bulbs. They also give members a hefty discount. Sewellparts.com Regarding your running boards, For $15 for 2 days usage, you can probably find an exploded diagram showing the makeup of the boards. Go to TIS.com. This is the Toyota Information Services web site. Toyota built this huge data base with any and all things technical for Lexus, Toyota and Scion. You do pay per use, but If you can't find it here it's not part of your car! lol Please come back and let us know how things go. Paul
victorjohn Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 That's great information Paul - Thanks! Gotta love these forums. I thought I hit pay-dirt when I found a website that claimed to have repair manuals for the LX470 from 1998 - 2007. It turned out to be a mishmash of repair manuals from different years of LX470 and Landcruisers. The closest thing I could find was a running board diagram for a 2004 Landcruiser which of course doesn't have the running board lights and also has a slightly different configuration. The download was only $10.95 and when I emailed the 3rd party who manages it and explained that they didn't have what I needed, they refunded me. Not an enormous amount of money but still a bit of a hassle. I've found another site which claims to have a similar service to what you described as an online database of OEM manuals specifically for the 2002 LX470. I'll check them out and we'll see what happens. I'll still plan to upload a diagram here (if I can get one) to help my Lexus brothers who may encounter the same thing. Thanks again Paul, Victor
wyatt1963 Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Gentleman, I have been without 3 of 4 for over a year now. Dasgeek posted a possible fix without fully removing the running boards. (try a search for Dasgeek??) I am pretty sure the post was Feb of 2014. He says the Bulbrite 715210 - 10 watt T3 (found @ www.1000bulbs.com) works but is bit bigger in size than the #891 replacement. If I can find the post again I will cut and paste here. Regards,
hankinid Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Removing the RB's may take half an hour if you take your time. I would suggest removing the running boards and leaving the brackets in place, but it doesn't make a lot of difference. The only one a little difficult access is the front bracket on the passenger's side. I removed mine within 2 days of buying it and they've lived in the attic since. ;) Steve
Daddylee Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Does anyone have any pictures to post on the light bulb replacement procedures? I'm about to replace mines in a day or so. Thanks!
