My trac and engline light stays on. However when they go off, the car begins to idle high. Any suggestions what could be causing my problem?

One of the first things you may try to do or have done, is getting the codes read using a scantool. Possibly there may be and issue with the sensors giving false information to the vehicle's computer causing the high idle. Whats the year, make, model and miles present on vehicle?
