My check engine light came on, took it to the mechanic who says machine gives emissions or Catalytic converter code. On the advice of the mechanic I took it to a muffler shop can replace new to the tune of $480 or a rebuilt/remanufactured one for half. My car is a 2000 LS400; should I replace the converter? I have heard that I don't have to keep it? Advice, suggestions please.
