deadguy Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Have my eyes on a 2003 LS 430 with 56K miles. Pearl white, immaculate inside and out. One local owner. One issue, and it may not be a major issue. When test driving it I noticed a knocking or vibration of sorts under the floorboard on the driver's side when going over larger bumps like manhole covers. It almost feels like a loose motor mount (had this issue on the vehicle I own now. Same sound and feel). I have not been underneath this car nor had it checked by a mechanic, yet. Any ideas?
Micah.Berry Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Not sure if the strut rod issue that is a part of the Gen 2 cars affects the 430s, but it'd be worth checking out.
jaswood Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Not sure about the 430 series but the earlier models were prone to failure of the "cushion" at the top of the front struts. Metal to metal sound going over a bump.
SW03ES Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 I would have the suspension looked at by a qualified mechanic who is familiar with these cars (a Lexus specialist), even a dealer if nothing else is available. This could be minor, or VERY expensive and you should know before you buy it...
deadguy Posted October 13, 2011 Author Posted October 13, 2011 thank you for the replies. An hour after I posted this, the seller backed out on the deal. Based on what you are saying here, it very well could be a blessing for me. Thank you.

SW03ES Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Yeah keep looking. The LS is a great car and is one of the best used car buys out there, if you take your time and really find the right one, it will deliver great service for a LONG time...
deadguy Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 and I did in fact find one, and buy it. 2004 LS430, silver (whatever that ash color is the factory calls it), with all options on the car. Very happy with it. I'm sure I will be around here more often.

deadguy Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 I just wanted to add how much I do enjoy having this car. I think my kids may be more excited about it than me but either way it is serving us well so far.
