90LS400Lexus Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 Has anyone here changed the "V-belt" on their LS400 themselves? The dealership told me today that mine was cracked and needed changed. I think they said the belt is $36 and labor is $76. Does this seem steep? How difficult is it to change yourself? I may call the shop where I usually take my car and see what they charge. They also said thay my transmission fluid was dirty and needed changed. Quoted me $56.95 for transmission service. Has anyone had this done elsewhere? Is $56.95 about the same price that all Lexus dealers charge? Any information appreciated. BTW- my car is a 90 LS400, with 227,100.
99lsguy Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 All they'll do is a pan drain of 2-3 quarts ATF....$3.50 each quart $56 is the best price I've ever heard. See if they'll drain it again after first refill for another $30 or so.....unless you want to DIY. Now for the drive belt. Here's the inspection, ovi.pdf
99lsguy Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 And here's the removal.... Install is reverse. Looks & Sounds EASY :D remo.pdf
jzz30 Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 all you need is a half inch drive off of a breaker bar to "un" tension the tentioner. then slip it off. you might need to take the fan off. the belt diagram should be on the inside of the hood or somewhere in the frontal engine compartment.
jzz30 Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 wait wait not a half inch, it was a 14mm socket or wrench for the tentioner
