Swimmerboy2112 Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Hey guys. It's time for a new car. I always loved the look of the Lexus SC 300 and 400. But i'm not completely convinced that i want one. I'm torn between the the Lexus and the Porsche 944. I need to hear some suggestions as to why or why not i should buy the Lexus. I have about $6,000 to play with and both the Lexus and Porsche are in my price range. The thing that is really swaying me into buying the Porsche is the manual tranny. I know some 300's did come with a manual but they were rare. Also if i bought the Lexus i'd rather have the 400, unless you guys convince me otherwise. Now i'm not new to modifying cars (i had a custom turbo'd Tiburon 12.3 1/4 mile and i currently have a 94' Camaro z/28 383hp 12.1 1/4 mile). So swapping a manual tranny into the 400 wouldn't be too big of an obstacle. I've done some research and it seems like the Getrag V160, R154 and W58 trannys are all compatible with the 1UZ 4.0 V8 (correct me if i'm wrong). I just want to get some opinions if i should buy the Lexus or if i'm just going to be wasting my time. -Thanks guys.
navylexman Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 the ting with the sc's is if you get one that is well taken care of than yeah it is worth it, but once again... they are more of a sports car, so finding one that was like a sunday driver is hard to find but worth it!!! i have had my sc400 for about 2 years now and i love it!! i never want to get rid of this car... now i have never driven a porsche but from the research i have done looks like they are much more expensive to fix than a lexus, so that is a plus... also if for any reason you decide you want a drift car the supra engine is a direct swap with the 1uzfe... with the exception of the wiring harness of course... but i would deffinatly go with the sc... 300 or 400 its up to you....
