rfalfa Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 My 91 year old mother is very frail, and I have always turned off the front air bag whenever she is a passenger. I just acquired a 2004 SC430 and could not find a switch (or instructions in the manual) for turning off the air bag. Any help will be appreciated.
cmartin248 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 So you would rather your grandma be jerked around by only the seat belt than be cushioned by an air bag? I think if you do some research you will find that only infants in carseats and those are the reverse facing carseats, should have the air bag OFF. If it were my grandma I would want a half dozen air bags all around her.
1990LS400 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 You might check with the dealer to see if the airbag on-off switches are still available. The attached page is from my 2000 LS400 owners manual. We thought having the switches installed for my wife but never did. I remember the installation cost of the switches being either very low or zero while the car was under warranty. Maybe we should appoint cmartin248 :chairshot: to one of Sarah's mythical death panels. He's got it in for Grandma!

You may think so however, Grandmas have very brittle bones and the airbag could cause multiple broken bone (seat belt also) in her rib cage. I for one wouldn't put her in my SC.
