esf1224 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Hi, I have a 2005 GX470, and 2 weeks after getting a new (refurb) alretnator I am having another problem. When idling at stop lights, i start having a burned rubber smell inside the car. First thought it came from car(s) next to me, but it repeats every time I stop for more than a few seconds. The smell goes away when I start driving again. Any ideas? Am i due for another trip to the dealer? Thank you
mann777 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 This normally happens when the parking brakes are not fully released. They tend to clasp the wheel even at the slightest variance, and you get this shoddy noise which is at the lowest decibel, and the you get this burnt rubber smell within the cabin.

I dont think it is parking brake. Brake light is not on, and seems to be completely released. Also, there is no smell until car is warmed up.
