City Mpg Vs Highway Mpg From Italy

Recommended Posts

Hi to all of you!

I live in Italy and I just purchased a second hand 2006 RX 400h with only 25000 Km (15000 miles). I'm very happy of the car even if I'm becoming "display dependent" as I'm driving with my eye constantly on the energy screen. Surely I changed my "way of driving" since.

The only disappointment is the fuel consumption mainly because it looks in some extent the contrary of what I read on this forum: Motorway (never more than 75 mph) 25-26 mpg and city 21-23 mpg.

Following the advices read on this forum I tried myself the ISC learning procedure, but I didn't notice any improvement. May be I made some mistake? I would like to check with you experts:

From the instructions...

5) Turn the ignition key back on to display "ready"

6) make sure the A/C and heater system controls are set to off

6) Lightly step on the accelerator pedal until the engine starts -then immediately take your foot off the accelerator and let the engine run until it stops by itself.

I have a doubt about the point 6) above: when you "lightly step on the accelerator", should the shift still be on P? or in D with the brake on? Could this affect the procedure?

Another point is that I was able just to move the power pointer a very little despite the pressure on the accelerator.

Thank you for your help.
