mkf5128 Posted August 6, 2009 Share Posted August 6, 2009 Does anyone know if it is possible to directly swap the navigation DVD player from a 2001 RX with a newer version. My unit is the Gen 2 version (86841-55010) which can only take navigation DVD updates through version 5.1 (86271-33034). The 6.1, 7.1, and 8.1 navigation DVD versions will not work properly in the Gen 2 player because the player can not handle the volume of data on the disk (I confirmed this with several Lexus dealers and other sources). However, the Gen 3 player (86841-33060) can handle the data volume. The Gen 3 players are found in the 2004 RXs. I believe they are physically the same size. I would like to swap out the Gen 2 for a Gen 3 unit. Would there be any compatibility issues with the display unit? Has anyone actually done this?
