Small Quarter-windows Just Ahead Of The Sideview Mirrors

Small quarter-windows just ahead of the sideview mirrors seem useless to me - but probably add more production cost then any benefit? Thoughts? I took delivery of my 2010 3 weeks ago, and the passenger side mini-window had to be replaced due to wind noise. It took the dealer 3 weeks to get the new part.

It's window dressing... same was found on the 99-03 Rx300's.
