Got The Alternator Loose, Can't Drop It Out!

Recommended Posts

I'm replacing the alternator on my 90 LS400. I have the part loose, but can't get clearance to drop it from the car. My mechanic mentioned that he would just unbolt the sway bar (which is what's blocking it), but I can't get the outer nut loose on the sway bar. Is there a lock nut or reverse threads on that or do I just need a breaker bar? And if I disconnect the sway bar to move it aside do I have to re-torque the sway bar bolts or just get them nice and tight?

Thanks, this repair is out of necessity, I'd rather pay my professional but just can't afford the extra money this time. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

PS. This car rocks! I love my baby, please help me get her back on the road ;) Thx, unwilling
