Scott972
My 1999 Lexus LX470 won't shift out of park! The ABS warning light is on. When I press the brake and try to shift NOTHING happens. I checked all of the fuses in the drivers kick panel. Also, the power windows and moon roof stopped working, I don't know if this is related. Any help or suggestions would be appreicated. Thanks!!! N.C.O.
Are your brake lights working? A bad brake light switch will not release shifter interlock, and may also cause the ABS warning to come on if it is not receiving the proper signal. Have you check the fuse box in the engine compartment also. N.C.O.

The brakes worked intermittently, shifter would not release and/or not smoothly, ABS warning on, and car wouldn't start with smart switch. I noticed that the brake petal would sometimes be extremely firm, but other times would go almost to the floor. Pumping the brakes several time seemed to unlock the shifter and allow driving. Problem identified as the stop switch.
