LC6529 Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Has anyone tried replacing their trunk struts? My 2002 SC 430's trunk will not stay open, it looks like the struts might not be too hard to replace but I have a habit of underestimating how hard something can be... Also, how much are struts? Note: This only affects opening the trunk, the power top works perfectly...

Reinhard Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Has anyone tried replacing their trunk struts? I'm concerned that the after market struts might take a bit of modification. What's the procedure for removing the old structs and installing new ones? Thanks.
aquanuke Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Its very straightfwd takes 10mins. Helps to have an extra pair of hands to hold the trunk when you remove one of the supports. I just proped it up with a broomstick.
Tom G. Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I just bought a 2003 SC430 and the trunk lid only goes up about an inch when you press the button. Isn't it supposed to raise several inches like on my wife's Toyota? Thank you, Tom G.

The clips were somewhat difficult to get on towards the bottong of the strut. If you use a towel in case clip falls off and have someone else help, you should be able to do it in less than 30 minutes. The struts were identical to the originals which I removed from the car. Good luck

Good luck I purchased mine from ebay for $50. Installed during the roof opening, stopped the sequence 1/2 way. this allowed easy access to both top and bottom of assembly.
krafter324 Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I purchased the struts on E-bay and they work great. I'm not much of a DIY person but it only took 5 minutes!! Spent Like $65 with shipping for 2 of them.
conger Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Is there any ebay company that is the best to purchase these struts, as far as quality?
