My Rear Interior Lights For The Door Doesn't Work.help...

Recommended Posts

My lights for the rear doors don't work. It'll work for a second, but that's it. Is there anything I can do or check?

It is a bad electrical contact in your door striker mechanism. This is a very common problem on the GS. Most of us just live with it because in order to correct you have to replace the entire internal lock mechanism which can cost a few hundred $$ if you buy the replacement part form Lexus. I guess it can be disassembled and fixed but I don't know anyone who has done it, and I don't recall any discussions about that on this forum.

It's +/- $250.00 per side plus labor unless you do it yourself. It isn't particularly difficult if you're fairly handy. The door latch mechanisms which contain the switch are not easily disassembled. I tend to be the kind of person that fixes everything that can be fixed. I've replaced all four of mine over the last few years.

Just a side note. The interior light is not always the only thing affected. When the switches stick, it often affects the ability to lock the car and auto headlamp shutoff among other things. The switches are responsible for letting the car know when a door is open or closed. The car depends on this information do make a multitude of operations possible. Lucky for you, they are sticking in the "door closed" position. In this case, they cause minimal problems.
