Golf Ball Rattling Sound - Front Driver Side?

I have heard of this description before and now it's happening to me!

98 es300 118,000 miles

It mostly seems to make the noise when it's cold outside and as the day gets warmer it's not as obvious. It seems to me to be a problem with the strut? I'm guessing the strut isn't bad but maybe just the tower? Any help would be appreciated!

They're called strut plates, the tops of the towers. They do take a lot of stress. They last a while but when they go, you'll hear about it. :D

thanks for the reply. You're most likely dead on with the strut plate suggestion. They're so worn out that you can smell burnt rubber after 2 miles of driving coming from the towers!
