KingOr Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 My right side HID headlight is not working. The cars model is 2001 IS 300. Does anyone know if there is a specific fuse that could have caused just one HID light to go out cause the left side works fine? If it is not a fuse, my 2nd question is I had called 3 different car repair shops and all insist or can only use the stock IS 300 bulb which is like $350 for the part/bulb. Could I just get something other than the stock part/bulb online for much cheaper? Something like this: see link below http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/featured...1461465581.html or maybe any other suggestions anyone may have to try to match the exact lighting color of stock HID blub? Any help on this would be very much appreciated thanks in advance!
bartkat Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 That bulb should work fine. Or you can look on Ebay for Philips bulbs at maybe a lower price. The bulb type is D2R. The new bulb will be whiter than your other side bulb cause they turn bluer with age so if you want a match you should replace both bulbs. The stock color temp is about 4300K
KingOr Posted August 9, 2008 Author Posted August 9, 2008 Cool thanks 4 the quick relpy. So you don't think that it possibly be a blown fuse? I also realize that it may not be the bulb but the ballast that could be bad which I heard starts at $1000 to replace :<! Let's hope its just the bulb. I might not want to order on ebay incase I have to return the bulb if it doesn't end up being that. If anyone could give some links with the Philips bulbs or any other options that would be really cool :D
KingOr Posted August 9, 2008 Author Posted August 9, 2008 Found these links what do you guys think would these work and match fairly close to the stock color wise? http://www.yourhotcar.com/prod/Philips/Bul..._4300K_bulb/113 or http://www.kbcarstuff.com/Philips_4300k_D2...p/pb-d2r-4k.htm or I just found this one too which is still Philips but costs just a lil bit more anyone know the difference on this one here ?? o and it has a fitment option which I'm not sure about which one the IS 300 would be ?? :/ http://www.kbcarstuff.com/4300k_xenondepot..._p/xd-4k-rb.htm
bartkat Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 The Xenon Depot bulb is not a D2R. It's a replacement bulb for one of their conversion kits. http://www.kbcarstuff.com/Philips_4300k_D2...p/pb-d2r-4k.htm would be the correct bulb for OEM replacement since it says it's D2R and it's 35 watts. The wattage is important. Replace that bulb and later on you can replace the other one to get a "like new" color match. I don't think there are separate left and right fuses so the easiest way to find your problem might be to swap left and right bulbs and see if the problem follows the bulb. If it does you know what to do.
KingOr Posted August 10, 2008 Author Posted August 10, 2008 I don't think I am going to try and swap the bulbs myself. I am just going to buy that bulb I guess and hope it fits and will work and pay to have the autoshop replace the blub. Do you think it is that hard to do, or could anyone find me a URL link on the how to do this myself?
