Hi, noob to here, but dropped in to see if anyone could answer a question of mine.

I've been searching here, a few other lexo forums, and google in general, and can't find anything to tell me so maybe a person can. I found an SC3 shell for sale with the 5 speed tranny but a seized motor, and then (while on the same car browsing tangent) found an '05 GS300 engine for a steal. I was curious how different they would be and how possible/plausible an engine swap would be? I know there are a couple different transmission bell housings (bolt pattern wise) for the 2JZ but I figured that maybe they're the same or making them fit up would be too difficult, and then I could put together an inexpensive 5 speed SC300 as opposed to going through the headache of looking for a really high mileage one all over the US of A.

Anyhow if someone can help I'm all ears and hope to learn, thanks in advance guys!

taking the engine out of an 05 and dropping it into the Sc is do-able size wise, but you're going to spend some money to modify the exhaust system, ECM, enginebay with new mounting locations, probably a new custom drive shaft, maybe a new wiring harness to the BCM.

It would probably be easier to find a refurbished or used Short block "GE" and installing it. Before you buy the Cheap SC w/ the 5speed, I'd check the transmission out. Chances are whoever let the motor seizeup didn't really care about maintaining the car.

good luck with your decision.

Hmm alright, didn't think it'd need a new drive shaft since the power's almost identical, but I did figure the mounting and such would be either 100% same or a ton different haha. How much would a refurbished engine typically run? the 2j from the GS300 is 400 bucks (but he didn't list what all the engine had with it in terms of ecu wiring harness etc), so it's pretty tough to beat that, but the savings may be not in engine price but how little I'd have to spend putting the engine in.

And yea I'm waiting to see if the guy with the 300 will send me pictures of it, because a seized SC isn't something I've heard of much. But thanks greatly!

Woops, I forgot that you mentioned the SC had a manual. you're going to have to change a lot of the Engine internals to handle a manual transmission. Engines are same but I'd imaging the drive shafts are different all together.

You're engine options are pretty wide.

LOC or myself can't really vouch for either site, but they are the most popular out on the Web.
