2000 Es300 Engine Noise

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to the LOC forum so pardon me if I'm repeating questions already asked. I purchased my Lexus ES300. year 2000 Platinum edition, 2 yrs back and have a few issues with it. It has ~60K miles now.

1. On hot days and esp when going uphill, I hear a rattling engine noise. Not sure if it is knocking. I use 87 Octane gas from Arco.

2. When using the FOB to open/lock the car, I get a weak car chirp and lights blinking. I don't have any battery problem. So not sure why this is the case. Weak battery in the FOB doesn't make sense to me.

3. My right turn signal clicks and the light flashes at a faster rate than the left side.

Any suggestions on these items.

Thanks.

Welcome carbuff,

I'll try to be of help for your first two concerns...

1) I would try a couple of tanks of premium in your 2000 ES.....it sounds like your getting engine knock because of lower octane fuel......I had to use premium in my previous 2001 ES or I got the same problem.

2) Check your owners manual....If memory serves there is a rotary knob under the drivers side area of the dash that you can control the volume of the chime.

Not 100% sure about the third one....but double check that no actual bulb is burned out & if all check's out ok....I suspect that the contacts are dirty and just need to be cleaned.

Thanks a lot. I located the knob and now the chirp is louder. As for the engine noise, it is gone for now after I resolved the CEL problem by cleaning the diode and the 2 sensors in the MAF device (thanks to all

the helpful blogging on this site). I too thought that the difference in the turn signal flashing was due to a burnt out bulb or fuse but all is functional. So, I'll just replace the bulbs in the event the

filament resistance has changed.

Thanks again.

Your signal light flashing fast on one side is common on these cars. You need to replace the socket for the front signal bulb on the side thats flashing fast.

Should fix it right up!

Thanks. I'll check that out this weekend.

As for the engine noise, it has still not resurfaced nor has the CEL light. Seems that cleaning the MAF diodes/sensors has done the trick.200 miles and counting.

Thanks all.
