Servo Motor Problem?

In my 2003 rx-300, 102,000 miles the a/c blows air to the feet even when the mode is set to vent only.

When I set the mode to feet and then try to set it back to vents, the servo gets stuck and makes a loud noise. I then set the a/c at max fan speed and the noise stops and I start getting some air out of the vents but I also get a lot of air to the feet.

I did removed the servo motor once and cleanned the contacts following the procedure previously posted in this forum. It worked for about a month, but now the problem is back.

Should I replace the servo motor, or is there any other servo that is causing this problem. Where is the best place to buy a new servo motor? Any help with this iproblem is appreciated.

Probably the servo arm is not in the correct position.

And most likely you will not have to replace the servo motor. It's expensive.

Use electrical contact grease. And make sure you put it back correctly and securely and test the movement before you put everything back.

Thanks, I probably install it with the arm in the wrong position I will remove it and install it again. Let you know if it works.

I removed the servo and re-install it with the arm in the correct position. However, when I put everything back I notice that the motor is not strong enough to close the spring loaded level all the way down to direct all air to the dashboard top vents. I helped it with my finger and it locked OK in the up position. However, when I press the mode button to direct air to the bottom vent it works fine but when I press the button to direct air to the top vents again, the motor struggles and makes a noise but is not able to close the spring loaded lever completely so I helped it againg with my finger and it locked into place. I do notced that getting the spring lever all the way down takes a lot of effort even with my finger. I don't know what to do next. It seems to me that a new servo motor will not be able to do it either. It requires significant force to push that spring loaded lever all the way so that all air flows to the top vents.

I put everything back and now all air is flowing to the top vents as the mode button is set that way. However, is anyone presses the mode button then it will not be possible to go back to redirecting all air to the top vent but will have to settle for air coming out from both the top and bottom vents.

I will like to fix this problem and will like to replace this servo motor, eventhough I don't think the new motor will be able to push that lever down all the way either.

Does anyone knows where I could buy a new servo motor cheaper than at the Lexus dealer?

What else could be wrong? Could the gears inside the servo motor be slipping. The noise it makes when trying to go to the last position on the worm cam certainly suggest that the gears are slipping.

Next thing I can do is to buy a servo motor from the dealer and install it and see if it solves the problem. I will wait to see if I get any ideas from this forum before I attempt to replace the servo motor with a new one.
