  1. The actuator might be different, but the motor inside could be the same. If you are a DIY man, probably you can do it; but in this case, why not find the motor and replace the motor rather than swap with the back door. For some idea check this link. It has a very detail explanation of how to do it. This apply to GS LS and RX, I don't know if this will apply to LX too. I did it on my RX. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-second-...uators-diy.html Good luck!
  2. Have you received them? I saw this one too, but the buyer wants me to buy in quantity. If you can direct me where to buy in small quantity, I would appreciate it very much. I would also try it if it fit. Thanks!
  3. Hi, I have my 99 FWD 161K, done by an independent shop for $1500. It's been 2 months and no problem. Independent, not the big chain shop like AAMCO I don't know if your tranny is different than a 99's. Find a shop in your local that you know or recommended to you! In my case, he was recommended to me by my a mechanic at my office.
  4. Probably the servo arm is not in the correct position. I don't know if you have read this or not. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...mp;#entry314878 Follow the link I posted in the thread; you will find useful information there. And most likely you will not have to replace the servo motor. It's expensive. Use electrical contact grease. And make sure you put it back correctly and securely and test the movement before you put everything back. Good luck!
  5. Here is another link: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...=air+flow+servo I have the same problem but it's solved now. Be careful not to break the clip; but if you did just like I did, just tie it with a zip ties; it works.
  6. An update to my posting before. I have done mine. It was done by an independent transmission shop for no more than $2K I don't know what he did, but he told me he replaced all bad parts with new parts, and replace the torque converter too. But it's good now. No more sign of hesitation and lurching. The noise were gone too. At first I was hesitated to let him do the job, but knowing he has done tranny for the company I worked for, (we have a fleet of delivery van and other cars of more than 100 cars) for more than 2 years and have given excellent service so far. So I try. And I'm not disappointed. He gave 1 year/12K warranty and a free tranny oil change after 3000 miles. Thanks goodness I don't have to pay the Lexus price.
  7. Hello, I have the same problem on my RX300. Could you please point me to the step by step pictorial? Thank you!
  8. Did you drain the fluid, drop the pan and clean it? Although we changed the speed sensors, the drain and fill (dropping the pan to clean) was what got rid fo the noise. The speed sensors gave us smoother shifting. I think the hesitation is gone between 2nd and 3rd also. But if you havent already, do the drain and fill before a rebuild! No I didn't. I talked to the previous owner, and it seems he did it although he wouldn't admit it directly. Anyway he agreed to share the cost with me. Dropping the pan and draining will cost more money, and the result is still questionable. I still have to rebuild it sooner or later. I don't want to spend more money than what obviously needed now or later for rebuilding the tranny. The shifting on mine is still okay other than a hesitation when shifting from reverse to drive. Especially in the morning when the engine is still cold. But I know it would failed anytime. It happened to my Camry, once I feel something wrong, it stopped the next day. So for peace of mine I will rebuild it.
  9. I tried to clean the speed sensor and did a swap. I tested both sensors following the procedure described by lenore. But it didn't give any improvement. The grinding sound is still noticeable (loud), especially when the engine is still cold. It sounds softer when it reach operating temp. I guess the problem is inside the tranny, not the sensor. So probably I'll decide just to rebuild it. (For peace of mind) Thanks for your help
  10. Check out these two threads: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=47717 http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=45951 We are still having a slight problem between 2nd and 3rd but it's overall a great improvement after doing what the folks on here suggested. We are replacing the speed sensors this week are hopeful it may work. If it doesn't I would much rather spend such a low $$$ amount on ruling it out before the worst case scenario. It seems that doing several drain and fills and either cleaning or replacing the speed sensors has helped many people. It's worth a try! Good luck. Thank you! I'll try the speed sensors this weekend, and I'll update with the result. The oil looks clean and fresh to me and doesn't smell burned. I don't know if I should do the drain and refill. May be I'll ask the previous owner if he have done it before.
  11. I just bought 1999 RX300 2 weeks ago, from a friend. It has 161000 on the odometer. Today, I have it checked by my trusted mechanic, he told me that it has problem with the tranny. Well, I already suspected it when I drove it to work. It kind a slip, and often it shifted to a lower gear for no good reason. He told me it might cost me between 2K to 3K to replace with a rebuild. For now I can drive it until it completely failed. He can't tell when will it happen. So, of course this is not very comforting, I wouldn't dare to drive it out of town. What should I do? Is there anything that can be done before the expensive replacement? Any suggestion from you folks will be appreciated.
