blivit
97 es300 question. In order to pass state inspection (VT) I needed to have major exhaust work done so I went the cheap route and replaced from the cat. back with parts store pieces. There is not an emissions test so passed ok. Thing is the sensor that was after the cat. is no longer there. Cut the wire. Cel had been on for a year prior to this. Still runs great. 28 mpg. What is the real danger in running in this manor? Replaced plugs 3 months ago and the old ones had been burning properly judging by their color and condition. I understand this not proper and I can take it if you tell me i'm an idiot. I just loose patience with keeping up with all the sensors etc. Thanks
Ratatat
like a lot of typical systems, the after cat o2 sensor basically tells the ecm that the cat is working. i bet if you pulled the codes from your CEL, it will say something along the lines the cat failed or the o2 sensor failed. mburnickas
Rat is correct. The ECU will still store DTC and think something is up. Since it goes by resistance, you could "rig" it up so the ECU thinks it is there. 28 mpg us highway right.
