Drive Belt Loose After Replacing Alternator--help

I just replace my alternator and now the drive belt is loose. I put everything back the sameway I took it off. Am, I missing something. Do I need to do anything special? Put key in ingnition etc. The pully above the alternator slighty (right facing vehicle) is not all the way at the top. Please help.
