Very Dim Non Navigator Lcd Display. Is This Correct?

Hi, Went and saw an RX300 yesterday......first Mk1 I have seen without Navigation option, the LCD display/Info screen seems very dark......test drove the car and it was very nice but it was a nice bright sunny day and I could barely make out the temperature/AC controls on the screen! Played around and checked the brightness and contrast were up to maximum....is this normal? The only other car they had was a Mk2 with Nav and the screen was much brighter.....is there that much difference between the Non Nav and Info screen brightness?

I am just a bit worried as I could not compare like for like.....

There is an adjustment for the brightness, maybe it was turned down....

Nope, as I said both Contrast and Brightness were at maximum...........

No normally it is quite readable in the sun, sounds bad to me.
