littlebit Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 I recently purchased an 1994 LS400. It was not used much in the last 7 years. If it is 35 F or colder in the morning, the instrument panel light does not come on. It comes on after I drive the car for about 12 minutes. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!
Steve Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 sounds like it needs replacing... when things warm up the connections warm up and expand. There are replacement services for these in the US.. i think it may be an exchange service. Been a while since i saw this though
Matti H Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 You need to reply a faulty condenser C212 (16V/10uF) on the circuit board on the back of the instrument panel, This will cost 10 cents. The dry electrolytic condenser makes the power source of the instrument panel nonoperative. The symptom appears when the weather is cold. I just repaired my 1994 LS400 with a new condenser instead of paying 1000 dollar for the original circuit boards. Find how to dismantle the instrument panel by looking at http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/electrical/instrumentcluster.html. Refer to http://apaqdigital.com/ls400/instrument_circuit.jpg to find the condenser which must be replaced. Regards Matti H
Mr. Freegard Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Matti H is exactly correct. Remember thou that that capacitor is an electrolytic which has a negative and a positive lead. Be sure that when you replace the electrolytic that you solder the new on on correctly. It would also behoove you to replace the capaciitor that causes the gas gage to fail: C142 which is a 4.7uf, 25v (uf stands for microfarad). A superior capacitor is going to have a higher heat rating, e.g., 115F as opposed o 105F.

Tantalums are less prone to fail and are available at these lower sizes.
