Instrument Panel Light Goes Off After Headlight On

I noticed a weird situation with my new 2007 GX 470. After I turned on the leadlight and drove the vehicle into a darker environement with sigificant light difference (in this case a parking garage), the instrument light went off. It appeared some kind of sensor detected light change and automatically turned off the light. As you would image this situation actually demanded the instrument panel light to be on for all the panel readings to be visible. If I turned off the headlight, the panel light went back on. Anyone ever experience the same problem?

Did you try adjusting the dimmer setting for the dash?
