New To The Automotive World

Hey all! I'm an extremely fortunate 17 year old who just got a '94 sc300 as my first car with my own cash

The first thing that I plan to do is paint it black, but as for performance upgrade, what should I go with first? I was thinking either lowering it a little/ cold air intake/ new rims and tires?

Any suggestions or tips are more than welcome.

First, you best abandon the plan of changing the color of the car. One would need to paint the door jams, engine bay...basically an entire strip down ranging in cost from $5,000-$8,000 for anything quality. Any corners cut will make the endeavor wholly basterdized and notably diminsh the value of the vehicle. Frankly, it is not an option.

From there I would strongly encourage you to put your efforts into simply bringing the vehicle up to par with basic routine maintenance and only then begin to pursue other upgrades.

In any event welcome to the 'automotive world'!

I've already considered that but to be honest I don't mind leaving the door jams/engine bay/ under hood gold, it's not like they are seen very often plus it will still match the leather. As far as routine maintenance, my dad works at a Toyota dealership so I've already got that covered :)

I guess what I'm looking for is where to get started to improve performance (bang for the buck kind of stuff I guess).

Thanks for your input!

Honesty I appreciate, but ignorance and lack of scope disturb me confused.gif. There is little more damaging you could do to your car than change the color in the manner you suggest. By doing such your otherwise 'o.k' car will be viewed as a 'hack job' and you as a 'hacker'. puke.gif If that is 'o.k' with you then by all means continue.

On a personal note it's funny to me. Here I can't get a fender or fuel door painted correctly (e.g. no orange peel, overspray, dirt in paint, clearcoat integrity or chipipng...) for less than an arm and a leg ($$$$) and a large population consistently believe they can paint their entire car for peanuts. Even more extreme some people think they can change a car's color.icon_rolleyes.gif

On the greater aim:

Troy, I strongly encourage you to utilize the search function. From typing in 'upgrade' a host of threads appeared with this one<-------link standing out at a brief glance.

Personally, I would embrace the gold exterior, pick up a set of reasonably priced rims (from an IS300 on CL for around $300) and go from there. Read the thread ^^^^^^^^^^ above.

Thanks a lot, I will seriously reconsider the paint job.
