Car Dies After ~20 Minutes Driving

Recommended Posts

94 GS300. Car set for about a year until I had the power steering pump and hose replaced. Anyhow, that solved that problem and it ran well for several days ~100+ miles each day.

A few days back I drove through some pretty wet roads (about a foot or so of water thru a heavy downpour in town). Later that night got in to drive to a friend's and it was hard to crank. Turned over, but sounded like it wasn't getting gas. Eventually after several seconds it got enough and cranked.

After about 6-7 miles it died in the middle of the road just as if it were out of gas (had 1/3 tank 93 octane fresh in that day). Walked to house, went back for it by that time it crunk up and we got it to his house.

One thing he mentioned, the low beams have shorts in the wires, so we cut them a while back and haven't replaced them yet, so I drive at night (rarely) with hi beams on.

We though fuel filter. But did some reading here and decided on a new battery.

Worked! Cranked and drove like a champ again.

Until last night.... drove about 15-20 mins and it just died in road as if it were out of gas.

Going to try and let it (it cranks back up this morning -today) make it to Autozone to check codes and the alternator.

He thinks the fuel pump may be getting hot and shutting off.

Anyone have any similar problems before or suggestions?

Thanks a hell of a lot for reading and any posts whatsoever to get this taken care of.

:)

so the car isn't overheating?

sounds like to me that you may have some water that went into your spark plugs? water into intake? moisture plays a large roll in keeping the motor running. i think it may be your fuel filter. for it to sit for a year and all of a sudden drive 100+ miles a day may have caused your issue. good luck in researching and fixing this problem. let us know what you find out of if you need any further assistance. if i can come up with anything else i'll be sure to let you know asap.
