Difference Between 90-94 And 95-97 Transmissions?

Is there a difference between the 1st gen and 2nd gen 95-97 transmissions? I don't like the transmission that's in my '96 and need to start thinking about a replacement. If the 1st gen trannies are interchangeable that would make my search a lot easier.

FWIW my transmission has noticeable shifts and whines in 1st gear. I already changed out all the fluid with fresh T-IV so I think it's gone.

1990-1994 models use the A341E transmission. 1995-1997 models use the A340E transmission. If I'm not mistaken, an A341E should physically fit, but due to it's taller 1st gear, it will make the car even slower from a dig.

I didn't think that the UCF20 would have the plain old A340E transmission. That's a common unit found in many cars - including the MX83 Cressida and MA70 Supra.

There are different versions of the A340E transmission designed for different cars. The UCF20 pre m/c has the A340E, but probably a slightly different A340E than that found on a Cressida or a Supra.
