Engine Harness On Front Valve Cover

Recommended Posts

I've been studying a Chilton's and comparing it to what I see under the hood of my recently purchased 98 ES300 in the expectation that I will change the valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and wires.

I got to the instruction to remove the two nuts to disconnect the left-hand engine harness. Well, these two nuts are different than any I am familiar with. They are relatively thin with six pointed star-like tops and a metallic cyclinder at their base where they enter the valve cover. I have never had to remove a fastener that looks like that. What type of tool is required?

Also, to get at the front spark plugs, the instructions say to disconnect the electrical connectors from the individual coils. But they don't explain how to disconnect them. I don't want to snap off some piece of plastic. How do I disconnect the electrical connector wire from the individual coil.
