emcg63 Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Whats up everyone? I am a newbie here and was wondering if anyone ever had a problem with the compressor disengaging? My 1990 LS' compressors cuts off after a second or two. The green light flashes also. When I press the ac button, the clutch engages then stops. As long as you keep pressing the ac button off then on it will cool. I have done this at highway speed and sometimes it will actually stay on until I slow down or come to a stop.
RFeldes Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Sounds like low Freon and the pressure sensor is picking it up and in turn shuts off the compressor...Also there is a connector under the compressor that can get corroded or loose and cause those symptoms. Or the least favorite is the compressor is binding.

The controlling ECU monitors the engine speed and compares that with the compressor rotational rate when the compressor is engaged. Compressor too slow and its disabled. For some reason the ECU "thinks" the compressor is not turning as fast as it should given a specific engine RPM. I would first check the sensor/detector that the ECU uses to sense compressor speed.

Any idea of the location for the sensor you speak of? Thanks in advance.
