E85 Modification

I've been reading and seeing on TV about using this alternative fuel(Ethanol), but my question is: Has anyone thought of converting their Lexus to run on this type of fuel, and if so, what would be involved? It sure seems to be the wave of the future.

P.S. I just read this article, http://xcelplus.com/e85/e85informationcenter.htm

it is not the wave of the future...mainly because enthanol comes from corn. We would have to make states grow corn, and make it the full crop before we can supply all the cars with it.

As for lexus, im not sure how to convert it, but Mercedes's cars are already enthanol ready

E85 is rather widely available in the Corn Belt of the upper Midwest, but it's only suitable for use in Flexible Fuel Vehicles - vehicles specifically designed by the car makers to run on E85. I wouldn't trust any aftermarket company conversion kit unless Toyota someday approves one. There is speculation the price of conventional gasoline could plumment to $2.00 a gallon in the years ahead because of competition from alcohol fuels. Brazil doesn't need Middle East oil anymore because alcohol fuels have been working out so well.

I thought E85 very corrosive and a poor lubricant? Like MTBE? Plus poor BTU’s = less mpg?

E85 is like a ban-aid in my opinion. I think we need to do other things to lower our depend for oil. Problem is nothing or not many people are changing their lifestyle (myself included). Will it help, sure be we need to look for other options.

FYI: good reading.
