Hi Lexus fans,

I have a question and hope that some Lexus fans out there can help me with. Basically, I own a 1998 GS300 equiped with a Hard disk-based GPS system. I was wonding if I could upgrade my hard disk-based GPS with a DVD-based GPS. I talked to Lexus dealer, but he said it is NOT doable. The latest version for hard disk-based GPS is 2005, but it does not include all the maps/information as much as the DVD-based GPS does.

Also, is there any software out there that allows us to add or do the upgrade ourselves?

Thanks so much.

In one word, NO. Long story, Either replace the entire system or find a top of the line hack that can convert the dvd files and replace the current files on the hard drive in the same format. Almost impossible.

Too hard. Too expensive. If you want current, aftermarket is probably your best bet. (I am not sure what you'd do about climate control though.) Either that or upgrade to a 01+ model GS. ;)
