New Catalytic Converter = Oil Burning Smell?!

Hi everyone, i just recently replaced my catalytic converter on my MY99 RX300 from the

dealership in Riverside, CA. Right when i got home i noticed a strange smell similar

to burning motor oil. I tried my best to sniff out the origin but my efforts proved

futile. I called the dealership and the service writer said that whenever a brand new

catalytic converter is installed, an oil burning smell will occur because of some paper

filter thingy inside the converter is exposed to hot exaust. That sounded a little strange to

me so i was wondering if anyone had a similar experience to mine.

Does a new Catalytic Converter = Oil burning SMELL!?!?!?

There are no paper inside your CATS if there is it would be caught in fire, CATS are very hot hot hot.... up to hundred of degrees temp. Inside the CATS has a bee holes that reduce noise from the exhaust. If your car engine light are not ON then don't worry about the smell, it will go away after while after new CATS are installed.
