Ashtray. Does It Have A 'shock Absorber'?

I hope you're OK.

My ashtray flies open. I know it's supposed to open gently - but mine doesn't.

Does the ashtray have a little 'shock absorber'? If so - is it a big deal to replace?

The ashtray in my 90 LS opened very slowly when the car was new but snapped opened quickly after a few years - it never bothered me - I used the ashtray mainly to store parking lot pay stubs.
