Yaemish
I'm sure you get a lot of these messages so sorry for any possible repetition. I am currently driving a Northstar powered Cadillac and love the car to death. The car just turned 90,000 miles and went out of warranty; and while it runs like a champ, I have a few worries. I don't want to bash Cadillac, my other car that is almost the same has been problem free. Looking at back maintence logs, the warranty company has paid quite a bit of money for repairs. I had a sensor replaced in the transmission ($20) but the entire cost included dropping the transmission to replace it. While it was out, my mechanic found a solenoid that had a crack and replaced that as well. I also elected to change the seals and a wiring harness while it was out to minimize future problems. I have also had to replace the AC compressor ($800), alternator ($250), EGR ($350), window motor ($80), and just last week a $120 switch for the window. I don't want to get nickel and dimed so I am thinking about going with the Lexus. What can I expect out of an SC with 60-70k on the odometer? The Cadillac is a very powerful car coming in at 300 horse (runs on premium too), it tops out at 150 mph. I enjoy the feeling of having a wolf in sheep’s clothing and at the same time, a great smooth ride. Can I expect a healthy amount of power out of the Lexus? If so which motor is preferred? I plan on driving a few when I head to Florida later this month so most of my questions will be answered then. I would just like to know what to expect. Last thing, if I ever added a turbo to the 6 cyl, is it a bad idea to do it to a car with over 50k?
monarch
It might be tough to find a used 10+ year old SC still in real good mechanical condition because SC owners tend to drive their cars hard. Even when their motors are still cold: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...topic=26182&hl=
daveman
You might get lucky to find one in good mechanical shape, like mine is...and lemme tell you if you have the choice go with the 4 liter (SC400) over the 3 liter v6 any day of the week, to me the extra power is awesome, my only problem with mine is its an automatic tranny, i would have loved to find a five speed manual because as bad !Removed! as my little car is, it would be incredible to be able to have more control over the power and shift points and such.
