camlex Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Hello, Between how many miles you should clean Throttle body? I have 171,000 and i don't remember cleaning MAF. Should I? Thanks,
Toysrme Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 The throttlebody itself, rarely. Eventually the carbon from EGR will make it stick a little bit, but that takes a long time before the throttle & ACIS plates start to stick. I suggest cleaning the upper intake every 9-12 months. Overactive EGR takes 5-10 horsepower from the build-up.
camlex Posted December 7, 2005 Author Posted December 7, 2005 Good morning Toysrme, You mention cleaning upper intake, How to clean? Any tip, instruction?. Thanks in advance.
monarch Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Corporate Toyota recommends periodically cleaning the throttle plate http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y189/mastertech/tbclean.jpg but not the upper intake tract or the MAF sensor and does not sell any products for cleaning those items. Any type of cleaning method that causes a plume of smoke to come out of the tailpipe can be harmful to the expensive oxygen sensors and catalytic converters. My experience has been that 30,000 miles is a reasonable interval for cleaning the throttle plate
