Replacing Ignition / Ecu

Due to auto theft damage, I need to replace the ignition / ECU of my 2001 IS300. I am told that the '01 ECU is not programable. Will an '02 or later system work with my '01? Any suggestions?

According to the parts list I have, the 2001 and 2002 ECU's have different part numbers. I don't know what the difference is though. Some of the 2001's got a reflash due to sluggish transmission shifts, and that may be it.

Part numbers:

2001 = 89661-53132

2002 = 89661-53300
