Hi

I have a 1999 Lexus ES300 with 117000 Miles on it. I took it to the dealer because the Check engine light came up. Dealer told me that i need to change the following.

1. Catalytic converter in Main Exhaust

2. Pre-Cat in Y Pipe.

Dealer Quoted me $2768 (labor + parts). I decided not to get it done with the dealer and searching for the options.. Yesterday i took it to Meineke and they told me that they will not change the Pre-Cat, but they can put a Universal one in the main exhust for $400. I also found the following on the web.

http://www.car-stuff.com/catalytic/quote.p...300&partid=3682

Can some on suggest me what to do? Do i have to change the PRE-CAT or can i get away with the one in Main exhaust.

Thanks in advance.

Buy that & put it in (If you have some jackstands), or have a shop do it.

Or buy a generic cat convertor & have a shop build you a new custom Y-pipe for about the same thing & gain 10-20bhp peak out of it.

If i buy the one from car-stuff.com, don't i need to change anything in Y Pipe(like Pre-Cat what dealer was talking about)?

Thanks for the reply.

WOW. The repair cost is like 25% of the cars value!

You won't have pre-cats at all if you buy that y-pipe.

Werd. For whatever reason (probably low demand) anything involving an OEM cat is insanely expencive. Which then get's bloated another 15-30% depending on what kind of dealer you're talking with!
