avdenver Posted July 13, 2003 Posted July 13, 2003 '90 LS400 Owner - Moving Up ^ Debating between the following LS 400s (private party sale): '98 LS 400 (3rd Generation) Style: 4 Dr STD Sedan Options: Heated Seats, Nak Audio, Nav Sys, Chrome Whls, Pwr Moonroof, CD Changer Color: Pearl Condition: Clean Miles: 120K Price: $21,000 '97 LS 400 (2nd Generation) Style: 4 Dr STD Sedan Options: Heated Seats, Chrome Whls, Pwr Moonroof, CD Changer Color: Silver Jade Condition: Outstanding Miles: 58K Price: $19,500 Note: I purchased my first LS 400 ('90) in August 2000 for $12,500. The price was a little high, but my friend gave me great terms. The car had 140K miles and the only "major" work its needed, in three years, was replacing the rack and pinion unit. Questions: 1) Do the advances between a 3rd Gen LS 400 ('98) and a 2nd Gen LS 400 ('97) trump the 60K mileage difference (120K vs. 60K)? 2) Am I crazy to consider buying another high mileage LS 400? Thank you! P.S. I have not negotiated on price, but know that the owner of the '98 is "flexible".
lexustx Posted August 5, 2003 Posted August 5, 2003 The 2nd and 3rd generation lexus are about the same. Everything from engine to interious space is about the same. I prefer the look of the 98 more then the previous year. However, with 60K difference in milage, I would choose the 97.
