01 430 Nav Screen Just Blinked Out

Recommended Posts

I was cleaning my GS interior (just got it a few weeks ago, 01 GS430, only 14k miles on it), and had the radio on, key in the ignition, of course. I had been cleaning it this way, doors and trunk open, for about 40 minutes when the radio made a static sound and then the sound went out. <_< A moment later the nav screen went blank, and the entire control panel (AC buttons, radio buttons, etc) just went blank, nothing.

Turned the key off and on, it came on briefly then did the same thing.

Took the key out, let it sit for a minute, started the car, and it worked ok. Pulled the car in and out of the garage to park it (straight) for the night and pull my wife's car in, and the radio worked the whole time I was moving the car, while running.

Shut it off, sat down at computer. :geek:

Tell me that my battery went low or something since I had it on for so long, and I don't have a $2k problem on my hands. I haven't bought a warranty on the car yet, the CPO warranty wouldn't transfer since I bought it from an individual and not through a dealer. Factory warranty dead since it's a 01.

Somebody please tell me if there is a known problem with the entire control panel going blank like that. :(

Thanks.

HI, I recently had a battery problem. MY wife likes to listen to the radio while she eats her lunch rather than eat in MDs or where ever. My car would not start so she called me to come check it out. When I got there, sure enought, would only turn over slowly, then not at all. While I was waiting for AAA. I was checking out the lights, radio etc. I do not have Nav, but as far as the radio, heater controls, and anything in that area, it would only work intermitenly. Kind of like it had a mind of its own. One minute it would work, next minute DEAD. Since I repalced the battery, everything is fine. Your battery my need replacing, after all, its at least 4 to 5 years old. Maybe older, who knows how long it sat on a shelf before it was installed in your car. :(

just replace the battery.  its too darn cheap in the great scheme of things to screw around with.  also the i'd say the battery was losing juice because it started shuting down non important items first.

I think you're right.

Cleaned it up, from the carpet to the leather, and every nook and cranny in the interior and trunk. Car looks brand new, which it should with only 14k miles on it.

Miracle Glaze interior cleaner is so much better than armor-all type products. No milky residue, no greasy fingerprints after touching, just looks clean and only mildly shiny, more of a new look than a greasy silicone look.
