Anita Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 I own a Lexus 1997 ES300 My a/c just started to sometimes cool & sometimes not. I took it to a mechanic & they showed me the pressure guage, which showed about 300 on one side, and 0 on the other side. They said either the front or the back filter is clogged & needs cleaning, but in order to do that, it requires A LOT of work just because of the location of the filters, and will be very costly. They basically told me that if I had any plans at all of selling the car, don't bother fixing it! I didn't have any plans of selling it, but now I'm thinking about it. Can it possibly be that much work, and that expensive? Has anyone had this problem? Is this something my husband & I can take care of at home? Or is this a very complicated process? Please help!

steviej Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 sounds like the expansion valve is faulty. do a search on "expansion valve" you will see it is common on early model ES's. steviej
camlex Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 That expansion valve cost is $65-70. To install, not a easy job. you need a good mechanic. my brother in law had to change in his Avalon mechanic charged him ~$350 Thanks,
