96 Ls400 Headlight Lowbeam Problem

I had noticed the low beams were burned out on my 96 LS400 and i was only using the fog lights for lumination, so i went and bought some silverstars to replace them.

the guide told me to buy the wrong ones, so i bought 9006st to replace the lowbeam. so after i took it apart, i realised i got the wrong ones, so i went ahead and swapped out the highbeams for the 9005st i bought, and threw the 9006st into the fog lights instead. strange thing is, i unplugged the high beam, and left the low beam in, and turned them on and both sides still light up, so i plugged back in the high beam, and unplug what i thought was a burned out low beam, and still i had high beams, unplug both lamps and the high beam does not work. i'm going to buy replacement bulbs for the low beams tomorrow, the proper ones. but i cannot figure out why i don't have any low-beam headlights, but the low-beams will still come on with high-beams when there is a separate high-beam lamp.

thanks for any info you can give me, and if anyone can tell me the correct low-beam bulb for a 96 LS400.

your high beams won't come on with the fog lights on:

i remember someone else having the same problem with the bulb types for that year model. i don't remember the solution, maybe someone will chime in

as far as the bulbs, here are the Silverstar bulb sizes you need via Osram Sylvania

Low Beam>9006st

High Beam>9005st

Fog Light>9006st

You need a H4 for the low beam. There is an error on Sylvania's site. Check your owner's manual for the rest of the sizes that you need, or maybe someone else will know. ;)

Edit: I just sent Osram an email asking them to look into the discrepancy on the LS's bulb size since this seems to be a common reoccurrence. I'll let yall know how they respond.

They say they are going to take care of the matter; here's what they wrote(I know the sizes aren't interchangeable; I didn't want to sound like a complete !Removed!.) and my message at the bottom....

Thank you for your inquiry. I appreciate you taking the time to advise us of

this discrepancy. The 9006 and the H4 are not interchangeable parts. I will

notify Marketing who handles the update of the application guide to have this

corrected.

Thank you.

Comments: I wanted to inform you of an error in the light size specified for

the 1995-97 Lexus LS400 sedan. The website specifies a 9006st when the vehicle

actually needs a H4 for the low beam. Perhaps this size can be substituted for

the H4, but several '95-'97 LS400 owners that I know have had

to exchange their lights for the H4 because of this discrepancy. Please let me

know the outcome of this matter.

Thank you,

Blake Chataxxxxx
