Used Ls 400

I'm looking to buy a used ls 400 and need some advice on what to avoid. Been looking at mid 90s cars. Driving a 2004 es 330, great car, not sure to go with a used es 300 or ls 400. Got good info from the 300 forum, I think I know what to look for on used 300s, looked at some older ls 400s that look great. Thanks
