johnmike21
Hey gang The middle vertical lights are dead on my left brake LED lights. is there a way to fix/replace them, or do I have to replace the entire brake light assembly? The dealer wants over $700 to replace the entire assembly. If I do need to replace it does anyone have a good video showing how to do it please? And a good online source to purchase one? I’m a true novice when comes to this stuff. Thank you for any assistance! RX400h
Quote Here’s a helpful video that shows how to replace the brake light assembly on a 2006 Lexus RX400h: Brake Light Replacement: 2006 Lexus RX400h 3.3L V6. For purchasing the replacement part, you can check out online retailers like: Amazon: They often have a variety of car parts, including brake light assemblies. eBay: You might find both new and used parts at competitive prices. RockAuto: Known for a wide selection of auto parts at reasonable prices.

RX400h
Ha! My hands often look like that after replacing/installing auto-related things. I'm glad you were successful. I may be doing the same thing, some day.
choward1103
Hey @johnmike21, how did you get the taillight off? The panel inside the trunk area? Up through the bottom of the quarterpanel? I have the same problem with my passenger side. I’ve purchased the replacement, and it’s been difficult to find how to remove it. (I’m also not experienced in this type of thing). Thanks in advance! johnmike21
Hey @choward1103 it’s very easy but you most likely will scrape some knuckles like I did. The entire assembly had to be replaced since it’s LED. Pry off the panel inside the trunk with a flathead screwdriver or a small plastic pry bar. Then stuff a rag down in the space to catch the nuts in case you drop one. Reach inside the panel and they’ll be three bolts that need to come off. One is easily accessed, the other two are up inside so you’ll have to do a little contortion to reach them. You may need a wrench to loosen them, and to tighten them when you put the new light assembly in. No need to over tighten, just a half turn or so to secure the nuts from vibrating off. Connect the wiring and test the lights before bolting it in. it’s an easy project for a novice, I’ve never done anything on cars except change fluids, and I was able to do it. Good luck. i know you didn’t ask, but wanted to include for anyone in the future: make sure you order the correct side assembly - right side/left side. i got mine off Amazon for about $90 each: AM Autoparts Left Outer Rear Tail... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0962P99PD?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Angelozz
I am 55 year old female and I was able to fix the left side assembly brake light myself. Just follow the videos and you will have no problems. Worse part is the removal of 3 nuts inside the trunk panel. Rest was piece of cake. ANGEL
