We are looking for a lexus convertible - 2012 to 2020  year time frame - and advice on what to look for? Does the top work well? Any preferences on which year is best?  We are in Tennessee - mild weather.

Thanks for the help!

Welcome, Ed. Keep in mind that compared to many SUV models and ES Lexus vehicles, the IS models sold in much lower numbers.

Consumer Reports does rate them as being either better than average or much better than average in reliability. The 2015-2016s were rated better than average, and the 2017 earned a much better than average rating. There was insufficient data for other (newer) year models.

Thanks much - I understand the initial upgrade was 2013-14 -  are there any issues with the hard top?

The 2014 and 2015 had suspension issues, and the 2016 had brake issues. The power top falls under the Body Hardware category. Every year from 2014 - 2017 shows that category as having much better than average reliability.

Ed, we bought a 2012 IS250C (Matador Red Mica w/ Alabaster interior) a couple of years ago. Pre owned one owner with 35K miles on it. It's been a great car for the two of us, problem free, and the top has always worked well.  Just took it to the local Lexus dealer for an oil change and routine servicing and everything still looks and operates well. Our other car is a newer model RX 350.

The Convertible is not quite as spacious as the RX and the electronics a bit outdated but for just the two of us it works well for that occasional one or two night get-away.  We recently drove it from our home on Florida's Gulf Coast to Key West for a short getaway and there's nothing like driving the Overseas highway with the top down. I imagine your driving experience would be just as nice driving around Tennessee in the Spring, Summer or Fall.

Best

Looks like a great car.  We just bought an IS 350C F sport with 34,000 miles and hope for the same results.  This is our fourth Lexus so we expect great things.

Envy your ride to the keys!  But Tennessee mountain roads are great fun as well

Best wishes to both of us!
