kratbomc Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 SOS. I have my calipers off on my 1990 LS400 with stock everything. The two little clips that span both pads on each caliber are a mystery to me. I can't figure out how to get them back into position on the new pads. I can see exactly where they are supposed to go -- into the holes on the top of each pad. But how in the world do I get them up there? There must be a "trick" to it. Anybody have any expereince with this? Can't drive until I get some help with this. Help! Ken Rybarczyk
ArmyofOne Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 slip joint pliers and big-!Removed! muscles. thats the only way. these springs work off of tension, they have to be tight. no special tools or anything. most disk brake systems are the same. just take the pliers and pull on the spring like hell until it locks into place. piece o cake. ;)
kratbomc Posted September 27, 2004 Author Posted September 27, 2004 Hail to Army of One! That worked and I'm good to go. Thanks for the advice.
ArmyofOne Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 heh, being a mechanic myself, and my dad as well, i have learned a few tricks of the trade. for instance, if you have a pole or something (like a basketball hoop thats cemented in) to brace agains that is next to your drivewway, get in a position where you can use your legs to push backwards, while pulling the bracket spring into its final location...your legs are stronger than your arms in 95% of people. glad i could help.
