Canopy
We just recently purchased a nice 1996 Lexus LS400 with 106,000 miles. The black paint(?) on the chrome trim outlining the windshield is flaking off on the passenger's side. The other side just has nicks in it. How do we repair that? VMF
i got the same problem and i just ignore it since its not that visible. its really hard to fix since to get this kind of paint quality u have to use spray paint and lexus paint comes in small bottles with brushes and when i tried to paint it with brush it didnt look good. Canopy
Thank you. I received one reply (not recorded in this forum) from someone who said he had the same problem, that it was not paint but vinyl tape, and that he used a hair dryer to take the rest of it off, and then used "stripping" (striping?) tape to put it back on. Said it took about an hour.
ebridges
My wife's black 96LS is the same. It looks bad up close. I don't understand how black paint can be expected to stay long on top of chrome. Very interested in anyone solving this problem. Thanks EB
VMF
hmm it looks like its only 96 problem. i dont bother doing anything in my case since i looked yesterday and i got only one "hole" sized as a peanut and its not noticable. why dont you just take all black paint off and leave the chrome? Canopy
why dont you just take all black paint off and leave the chrome? This is my wife's car, so what I think probably doesn't matter. However, having said that, I think we'll go to Pep Boys and get some black striping tape, put it on, and see what it looks like. We can always take it off again. We probably wouldn't even notice it except for the fact that the car is "new" to us. Best car I've ever driven.
rwallican
It must just be a problem with the 96. I have the same problem. I bought my car from a Lexus dealer and, after I noticed the missing paint, I called my salesman. He said that just happens to those 96s. It's not really noticeable.
