Gs 400 Brakes

Recommended Posts

I am planning first brake job on 1998 GS 400 @ 60,000 MI and plan to install new rotors. Is it safe to use non-Lexus rotors with Lexus pads? What other parts should I have my local mechanic install and does mechanic need any special equipment to do the job correctly?

No special equipment is necessary, but experiance in brakes is a must. I recommend Brembo plain, undrilled, non-slotted, no-bull*BLEEP* rotors. They come at a good price and hold up very well. One source is TireRack. They offer excellent customer if you should ever need it. Of course, you may find them locally.

Note of caution, you may elect to use any brand pads you wish. Lexus pads generally don't squeal (providing they are installed on clean, well-working calipers). Other brands may or may not be as quiet as you like.
